Everything worked out

Purchase went smoothly. Installed OS, configured OS, wen to activate license and it would not succeed.
Turns out I had to install updates before the activation code would succeed. Go figure, thanks Microsoft.

More stable!

It made some great strides in over 2012 and helped to up the level for Windows server management. As a testament to its longevity, we're continuing to use this version in a few of our servers, though we're in the process of decommissioning these. I stepped back from Server 2016 to come back to 2012 R2. Not only is it more stable, but it uses up 30% less system resources than it's predecessor.

Thoroughly Pleased

So far I have been thoroughly pleased with this Server OS. Does what I need it to do. UI isn't as clean as I would have liked (very Windows 8.1 in feel) but it is still very usable. I've been using Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 for quite a few years now. It's a solid server OS and is stable. However, the UI Microsoft decided to go with isn't suitable for a server. Great server OS and still widely used here. It's basically the server equivilent of Window 7 SP1. We're slowly migrating most of our servers to 2012, but 2008 r2 is still going strong.

We use 2012 primarily

We use 2012 r2 primarily at our Agency do to upgrade cost We have implementing a few 2016 but have not made the full jump Very happy with 2012 no issues. I've only been in IT long enough to see Server 2008 R2 be in a position where it is close to being replaced with the newer server 2012 r2. Whilst managing whats left of server 2008 R2, it appears that it is very stable with minimal efforts to keep it running. The only down side is the annoying update popup that comes up every 4 hours until you update, but there could be worse things.
