We worked with Veeam tem consistantly!

We would work with Veeam support much more closely from the start. Some of our struggles are due to incorrect implementations. This would have resolved greater than 50% of the issues we had when backing up VMs, though many issues would have persisted. We also would not use backup to AWS VTL at all. If your overall backup strategy involves archiving to cloud, I would look at other vendors. If it does not, you may find Veeam an adequate solution.

We have had consistent throughput and failure issues with Veeam from our Hyper-V environment. We are working with Veeam to resolve those issues, but are unlikely to be able to resolve them to our satisfaction. We also use them for file backups. We use the documented AWS Tape Architecture for this. We are unable to recover more than 1 file at a time and there is no good way to determine what files are on tapes. We scrapped this portion of the solution for this reason. Our overall alignment requires us to move our data into Amazon for archival storage. This is not something that Veeam supports today, having removed the functionality at some point between Veeam 7 and 8. It is maybe slated for Veeam 10, but they have delayed the product indefinitely. Veeam is now clearly falling behind other vendors in technical implementation.

Lost the edge

Veeam has lost its edge in technical implementation. Veeam needs to find its technical footing and increase their ability to work with cloud solutions, including Azure and AWS. This includes not just archive to cloud, but restore from cloud: from what we hear, Veeam 10 would need days to rebuild its catalogs from data in S3/Glacier if the VBR server (presumably on-prem) was lost in a disaster. Our Veeam experience has been very positive. We tried several other backup solutions for our VMware virtual servers. We found Veeam to be the best backup solution. And we do a LOT of backups and restores. We have a quite large test environment and thus have done 53 full server and several partial and file restores over the last year. We also had our Exchange server crash last year. We contacted Microsoft to help with the issue, but they never could get it resolved. We contacted Veeam and got them on board and they worked some magic with us getting us back online after this very hard-crash.
