We're moving in this direction with our current environment. I setup a test lab with Vmware Vcloud 6 Suite Advanced Edition 1 Processor License and was very impressed. I kept getting told we'd never need it. Well when we started looking at multiple data stores, it was pretty clear a test needed to happen. The complexity of the product is definitely high, but fairly simple interface once you get the hang of it. So far so good, I'm not sure if I see a big use for it in our environment or not. After testing longer, I will make a full decision whether to stress the need for this product or not.
I currently operate a small VSphere deployment and have not moved my infrastructure to it. However, with the growing needs of our Development team, I thought this may be a great way to explore VMware's options, primarily the vCloud Air VPC product. My first experience would be the subscription setup. The 300.00 dollar credit is generous. However, convincing management to tag a credit card to the project when it is in it's early phase is a hard sell. This would be great if I could explore using the credits and then have a case after using the them up to apply a credit card. The pricing is really competitive.
