Microsoft Exchange 2010 continues to be used by a large number of state, local and federal agencies as this award-wining product has proven to be a valuable emails and contacts tool. The purchase of client access licenses (CALs) is required when using Exchange as these licenses allow users to have access to information on the server. CALs are available in two forms, Device license and User license. This User CAL is assigned to the employee rather than to a computer, allowing the government employee to have access to the Exchange server from multiple devices including a PC, laptop or mobile phone. This option is perfect for employees who spend the majority of their time in the field rather than in the office. This User CAL is available via the Microsoft Open Government pricing program. This program provides for reduced software costs for agencies with between two and 250 computers. This is a perpetual license in the Microsoft Volume Licensing program and the term is two years.
