New layers of security

The system brings great new layers of security to the table and possesses Azure-inspired innovation for the applications and infrastructure that can transform the way you do business.

CAL requirements

The Windows Server 2016 licensing model includes both Cores + Client Access Licenses (CALs).

Each user and device accessing a licensed Windows Server Standard, Datacenter or Multipoint edition require a Windows Server CAL, or a Windows Server and a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CAL.

Access to earlier version

A Windows Server CAL allows access to any edition of Windows Server of the same or earlier version.

Access to multiple licenses

Each Window Server CAL provides access to multiple licenses of Windows Server.

Azure Hybrid Use Benefit

Rather than paying the full price for a new Windows Server virtual machine, you will pay only the base to compute rate.

When you are ready to transition workloads to the public cloud, you can leverage your existing investment in Windows Server. The Azure Hybrid Use Benefit lets you bring your on-premises Windows Server license with Software Assurance to Azure.

Love how much you can do with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Single Device CAL - Open Government

Love how much you can do with PowerShell on this OS. I'm looking forward to never having to RDP to a server again. The Linux guy across the cube farm from me says MS is ripping off all the Linux shell type stuff and I think it's glorious. Easiest remote management in Windows server yet. Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Single Device CAL - Open Government is definitely an incremental improvement over 2008 but the biggest changes are the increased interoperability between Active Directory and the windows 10 ecosystem. The removal of most update control from the user end puts an increased importance of effective management at the administrative level. Other changes like faster link establishment and new tools for managing system images make a very solid entry in the series.

We have been waiting for this

Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Single Device CAL - Open Government is what we in the IT Support field has been waiting for. It was designed with management in mind and makes it easy to maintain even the most complex of networks. I am really excited about this and I am hoping to upgrade our network the new Server 2016. Looks like I need to brush up on my PowerShell... Love how easy it was to setup and much easier to customize than its predecessors. I cannot wait until all our servers are running this.

I am excited!

I was thoroughly impressed with how easy it was to configure and deploy the credential guard and code integrity features of Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Single Device CAL - Open Government. Having the ability prevent applications from installing and running using whitelisting is such a valuable tool against potential attacks. I installed this as the primary server in my lab environment. It can do everything I need currently from 2012 R2, but there's nothing new that I need now, so we don't plan to roll it out to production just yet. I am excited about Nano servers. It will be nice not to have to reboot quite as often, given such a small footprint.
